Surprise! Adulting is Totally Overrated

As children, we often fantasize about growing up! We eagerly awaited the day; when we could make our own rules, right? Eating dessert for breakfast, had to be on someone's list. To stay up as late as we wanted. Oh yes, that was a fantasy of many young children! The happiness that adulthood promised. You could feel freedom and independence. The ability to do whatever we pleased and when. But now, standing on the other side of that childhood dream, it has left many of us wondering. Is adulting what it is cracked up to be? It is not to me! Please keep reading to find out why we have been duped.

Decisions Decisions
Overwhelmed Adult

Freedom the myth

One of the biggest misconceptions about adulthood is the idea that you will finally have freedom. The freedom to do whatever you want. Adulting is a never-ending cycle of responsibilities. Between paying bills and maintaining a job. The "freedom" we once imagined is out the door. Now, you have the freedom to manage a household. That thorough list of never-ending obligations now belongs to you! Sure, you can technically eat ice cream for dinner. But do you have time? Remember, you are juggling a million other things.

Hitting hard financial responsibilities

Remember when money seemed to appear magically? Just like it fell off the gigantic tree out back. There was no money tree. The money was courtesy of your parents. Hey, you are an adult now. All the magic that once had now disappeared into thin air. Are you tired of being left facing the harsh financial realities of rent and mortgage payments? Remember, the student loans and unexpected expenses did not go away either. The economic burden of adulting can be overwhelming. Remember that carefree childhood? Where was the biggest worry? Which toy should I play with? That was a sweet job, right?

The Social Pressure

Society makes us feel like we should have it all figured out by a certain age! Each year, that age gets younger and younger. Always pressure to be successful in our careers. To have a picture-perfect family, whatever that means anymore. Let us remember to maintain a thriving social life. Yet, the reality is that most of us are just trying to keep our heads above water! Someone should be shouting, Amen, by now! The comparison game is strong in adulthood. It is easy to feel you need to catch up even when doing your best.

Constantly Hustling

Adulting is synonymous with hustle, whether climbing the career ladder, managing side gigs, or trying to make ends meet! What most of us call living paycheck to paycheck! There is always something that needs your attention. The 'me time' concept often becomes a distant memory as we prioritize work, family, and other commitments. Self-care is not a luxury! It is a necessity. The relentless pace of adulting can lead to severe burnout. Still, with proper self-care, we can manage our responsibilities without sacrificing our well-being, making us long for the simpler days of childhood.

Stability the Illusion

We often equate adulthood with stability. It does not matter if it is financial or emotional. However, the truth is that stability can be a catch. Life is unpredictable! Adulthood brings challenges and uncertainties that we often only see once it is too late, whether a job loss or a health scare. Unexpected life event. Adulthood can be anything but stable. The idea that you will "have it all together" one day is more of an illusion than a reality, right?

Embrace the Truth

While certain aspects of adulthood are rewarding, growth, whether personal or in meaningful relationships, is important when reaching your goals. It is essential to recognize that the idealized version of adulting we once imagined does not always match reality. It is okay to admit that adulting is overrated! Acknowledge that it can be challenging. Embracing the challenges and giving ourselves grace is the first step!

Are you tired of the daily grind like me? Do you want to make a bold statement? Check out my new T-shirt for sale! It proudly displays what most adults have been thinking for decades: "Adulting is Overrated." Good news! Adults signed the T-shirt. I have asked people from a multitude of backgrounds if they agree. No one has corrected this sentiment yet. Grab yours today and join the movement to embrace the fun side of life!

The next time you feel overwhelmed by the demands of adulting, take a moment to remember that it is perfectly normal to feel this way. It is okay to feel the weight of these responsibilities. But that does not mean we cannot find joy in the journey, even if it is a little bumpier than anticipated!
