As busy professionals striving for success; do you find effective ways to manage our daily stress? Our peace of mind is what we are trying to maintain. One powerful tool that can help in this quest is journaling.

The Science Behind Journaling and Stress Reduction

Do you think that journaling is just putting a pen to paper? Journaling has scientifically been proven to help with managing stress. Also, journaling can enhance mental health. This is fantastic news!

When we journal, we engage in a form of expressive writing. Which in turn allows us to externalize our thoughts and emotions. Research suggests that this process; can have a therapeutic effect on the brain. Allowing, us to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Say hello to relaxation.

Mindful Journaling

Journaling Roadmap for Stress-Relief Practice

1. Daily Pages

Set aside time each morning to write three pages in a journal. This practice will help clear your mind. If you want to start the day with clarity and purpose, get a journal. If you do not own a journal, you can purchase one. Your subconscious talk can now talk.

2. Grateful Journaling

Each evening, write down three or more things you are grateful for. Remember, your journal is a safe space. Now, relax and let your thoughts flow. Focusing on gratitude can shift your mindset. Find contentment with your daily journal entries.

3. Emotional Release Journaling

When stressed, write down your emotions! You can purchase journals with sections that highlight your emotions. This technique can help you process complicated feelings and understand their underlying causes. No matter what emotion you are feeling, writing it down gives you the element of releasing that emotion and moving forward.

My motto is to leave it on the page! Well, in this case, on the screen! See table below.

Roadmap to Benefits:

  • Increased Self-Awareness: Why is it important to be self-aware? Self-awareness enables you to recognize your triggers and responses to stress. By being aware, you can resolve a problem. Prior to the problem starting. It is often easier said than done! However, with practice, you will get better.

  • Enhanced Problem-Solving:  This benefit intertwines with the first benefit. Writing things down can provide a clear perspective. Dark room with no flashlight? A clear example of how challenges arise.

  • Improved Emotional Regulation: Journaling can be a healthy outlet for processing and managing emotions. I have found this information to be spot on! For example, when I was pregnant many moons ago, brain fog was not my friend. Anything and everything were a list. Thankfully, my journal allowed me to remember my daily tasks.
